Eliot T. Masters

Specialist in resilient agriculture and nutrition, food security and smallholder adaptation to the effects of climate change for over 25 years, Eliot Masters has conceived, designed and implemented a series of national and regional projects focused on agricultural and natural product value chains in a context of integrated conservation and development.  Since 1988, Mr Masters has provided technical assistance to and for CGIAR and UN agencies, national governments, donors and NGOs.  With a B.Sc. in International Agricultural Development from the University of California, Davis and an MBA in Marketing from the University of Liverpool, he has facilitated development of national and regional (inter-governmental) product quality standards, codes of practice and standard operating procedures for post-harvest processing of agricultural and national products to improve food quality and safety, and has developed methodologies for value addition at the  primary producer level based on applied and adaptive action research. Resident in Nelson, New Zealand at the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT), Eliot is currently working on landscape-level restoration and sustainable agricultural intensification using agro-biodiversity including indigenous macroalgae in integrated multi-trophic mariculture.
